My Hand in Ruin
I had been given a choice. I had to choose between getting my life back, and the lives of all those teenagers in the same as I. Overtime, we had grown closer. We had bonded. We were our own society. Living in harmony, respect, protection...
But it wasn't enough to overcome my selfish mindset. I chose my life. Everything that had been taken from me was promised to be returned, if I helped our society band together.
I didn't think. I wasn't thinking. I didn't realize what he had meant. I thought everything would go back to normal, but my judgement was clouded by the one thing I had desired for the last 3 months. I turned them in, I turned on them. I was promised my life back. I should've known better.
And now that I stride through the emptiness of our town, I begin to feel the emptiness grow inside of me. A town that was once filled with life and a society of people who protected and hoped, was now dead. Defeated. Hopeless. They had looked up to me. I was the one they had looked to to lead them to victory, but I had only led them to ruin, by my own hand. The same hand that they held when they were scared. All along they should've been scared of me. Me and my valiance, the fault in their own.
