POEM STARTER
Inspired by Jewelie Rain
Write a poem that transitions through two or more of the seven stages of grief: denial, bargaining, anger, depression, loss of self, reflection, and acceptance.
Echoes of Loss
You deny it, you can't accept It hurts too much to be true Maybe it's just a nightmare How could it have happened to you?
'Please, tell me it didn't happen Tell me this is all a bad dream.' You beg from the depths of despair Hoping it's just fate's scheme
But there is no denying Angry tears roll down your face Why you, what have you done? 'I did not deserve this disgrace!'
You recoil in bed, quiet and hurt Seeking alleviation in sleep Being awake is excruciating In slumbery dreams, you weep.
Darkness takes you in her arms It's that scream you can't shout The aching lump in your throat An aching spirit torn by doubt.
Your shy eyes open slowly The pale light floods your mind Take a deep breath, let it all out Is there an explanation of any kind?
The abrupt loss echoes within Take your hands to your heart Unfathomable mysteries of life The web spins and we do our part.
