WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a dialogue scene that portrays a toxic relationship.

I’ve Heard This Before

I crept along the shoreline in perfect silence. Plenty of water rushed towards me, but I couldn't hear a thing. I sat at a great spot, not so perfect but nowhere near as amazing as this silence. His hands waved before me, and I took off my headphones.

“You think I want to listen to this?” I muttered quietly.

I didn't even so much as look at him.

I was fed up.

I…

“Listen shithead…”

That's when I slapped the headphones against my ears and I carried on walking. The perfect silence returned and comforted me. His stone grey eyes held a cold, distant anger which I tried to repel, tried to escape. I felt a tight grip on my wrist and a force that then followed through my spine. It forced me sideways and onto the sand which crept along me.

The perfect silence was stolen from me and all I could hear now was his horrific voice along with the quiet crashing of the waves.

“I'm fed up with your toxic bullshit, All you do is ignore me and none of this gets resolved. Friends should be there for each other even when it's tough!”

I've heard thia before.

“You aren't quiet because you're profound or cool in any fucking way. You are quiet because you've got nothing worth saying.”

“And you chat shit because silence terrifies people like you, gives you too much time with your own poisonous thoughts!” My venom showed on his face. I couldn't stand his bullshit, but guilt crept in, just for a moment.

“No… silence just reminds me that you are here…”
