The Red Wire
I cut the red wire… Was I supposed to cut the red wire or the blue wire? I cannot remember what Chuck said. If he would stop talking in all these circles I would be able to finish this job any second now.
“CHUCK! SHUT UP AND TELL ME THE NEXT STEP!!” I spit out in a whisper yell into my headset. Chuck immediately stops his babbling about the difference between wire sizing. “Oh.. sorry Red. After you cut the red wire, just grab the jewel and get the hell out of there! The weight sensors will reactivate in 2 minutes.”
As if i wasn’t trying to get out of here already pal. I slowly step off of the platform in the exact same spots on the white tiles I have been memorizing for the last 3 months. The tiles are black and white checkered and this billionaire dickhead has the floor rigged that every tile has a weighted sensor and is auto adjusted to his build during specific hours in his office. Chuck was able to deactivate the white ones for 10 minutes so I could run across and snatch the jewel from the display case. After cutting the RED WIRE, of course.
I’m halfway across the room when Chuck’s voice faintly starts in my ear, “Uhhh Red… I may have miscalculated and you have 8 seconds”. The window I came through is straight ahead, approximately 10 feet. I better make this dash quick or all of this will be for nothing. I won’t be able to hook onto my rope in time to climb back to the roof but I remember a pool being directly below this window. Welp.. lets hope some higher power intervenes. I sprint ahead and dive head first out the window, soaring through the air until I see the water come closer. I hold my breath and brace for the impact. You would’ve thought I was an Olympic Diver from the way I hit that water. I gasp for breath and hop out of the pool and take off for the edge of the property line. Once I get under the cover of the trees, I breathe out a sigh of relief. “Fucking Chuck.”
