POEM STARTER
Write a poem that is titled ‘Daydreaming’.
It might be useful to consider escapism as being both good and bad in this poem.
Awakening. [?]
Peace is offered by none, so I offer it to myself.
I choose to lie in my bed, the world in my mind far better than the world outside.
Behind my eyelids, this dark is far brighter than any real flame.
There, I can become what I yearn, I can achieve what I desire.
I am what I desire.
Flowers blossom within me, because I will them to, and happiness sparks from nothing, because nothing is what I have.
Nothing is what I choose.
Perhaps now I can be without punishment, live without worry, and breath without fear.
Or perhaps, when I open my eyes, I’ll find the flowers growing in my mind are nothing but the gaping holes of what should have been.
But never were.
Because I stayed dreaming instead.
