POEM STARTER

Loss

Write a poem, in any style, that focuses on the theme of loss.

The Sun And The Rain’s Bow

Soaked in the wetness of rain where all is gloom

And when the sun shines, the rainbow comes..

The grayness of the skies and its shadows on the ground, the gloom is rather the most beautiful

Rain filling every crack and crevice, the pain I endure however softening my heart

I’m at such a weak point where my knees bend and my hair hangs over my eyes blinding me from her face keeping me fixed in place and looking to the ground

She speaks and I hear her voice’s melody

Yet the rain washes over her words

Daring to look at her lips to understand the words she mouths, she’s fixed in front of the sun and I cannot see a thing

My tears blend with the rain and so she cannot notice my hurt, my feelings

As if she believes I’m not concerned when I am the most of all, I look up again finding a smile

I remember what her face looks like when she smiles as it strikes my heart like a quick stab from a pin

Grabbing ahold of my heart as if it’d fall out of my chest to the ground before her feet, I protect it cautiously

“Don’t do this” I say and she cannot hear me

I begin to bawl more in utter agony beginning to scream “Don’t do this! I love you too much! I can’t let you go! I will never let you go!”

She notices I’m saying something and now she cannot ignore.

Coming closer, she reaches for my bent back with her hand then withdraws..

She kneels to my level and I cannot face her.

Exhaling, her smile has gone with the stormy wind

“ My love, let me be the sun that dries your raining tears. It’s how we make the rainbow.”

And she stands.

Walking away into the distance at a slow pace yet as if long strides.

She’s disappearing rather quickly.

With my stubbornness I will never accept her choice.

In love with every part of her, grabbing ahold of myself more will not be my hands grabbing onto her.

There is no “one last touch” “one last kiss” “one last smile”

I set my foot flat on the pavement and depend on it to raise myself up and get to my second leg for a full stance.

With a bent back I swing myself to face the sky, with my hair flipping back and my eyes shut.

My Adam’s apple sticking out sharply and my chin is high while my spirit is within my base of my feet.

Fixing my head forward I turn my body towards the direction in which she’d leave me and my eyes open slowly as if waking from a deep sleep.

I see nothing.

However,

I begin to feel a warmth covering my backside.

A sensation of finger tips reach for the front of me, and with both hands, now hugging onto my heart.

“She’s behind me. She’s hugging me.” I acknowledge.

“Stay with me” I mutter.

“ I am here.” She responds.

And so I begin to walk..
