POEM STARTER

Write a poem about taking a gamble.

Your interpretation can include the classic ideas associated with gambling, or something more metaphorical.

Gambling Art

Gamble.

Nothing more,

Nothing less.

Gambled on life’s changing chance

Found naught but red,

Addicted and alone

Another token thrown.

Who’d want to stay

When everything goes away?

Cards scattered from the deck

By foul hand clean.

Another shot

Bitter river

Tears of salt

Does nothing halt?

Green velvet bizarre

Runs circles too far

Vacant table,

Empty minds.

Rough echoes blur

Behind mortal light,

Jump shaken glass, jump

Rattled absurd; icy lump.

Here lain bare

All without a care,

Tightly caged

Given up the fight.

Nothing less,

Nothing more.

Gamble.

Life’s lonely art…

Consume
