Wishes Have Prices

They were both at the Wishing Tree, the one they always saw in their dreams. Though it looked just as beautiful, it felt more sinister in the day than when they visited it at night.

"I don't know how I feel about this," Leah admitted, turning to Adora, "but we must do this for my Father."

They looked at eachother before nodding and walking towards the Tree together.

Little did they know, everything has a cost.

It is believed that visiting the Wishing Tree gives you want you want, but nobody ever remembers enough about the price.

These two girls came with hope to save Leah's father, the Mayor of the nearby town, from his illness. But in order to heal one, you must harm another.

Leah and Adora approached the tree, wary but optimistic.

Leah read the sign on the front, "To call the Tree, you must clap times three."

She did so, and called upon the Tree's Spirit.

A voice called, "A wish is all you must ask from me, and instructions will be returned to thee."

Leah called up to the tree, "I wish for you to save my father!"

There is a moment of silence before the voice said, "The saving of lives requires some things. The light, a hair, and something with wings."

Leah and Adora conversed with eachother before gathering the things.

"Well the sun is the light right?" Leah asked.

"And I have my hair." Adora said, plucking one off her head.

"And something with wings?" Leah looked around before picking up a beetle off a leaf. "Okay perfect."

They returned to the tree with these things, and laid them down on the ground before it.

"Are you sure with your wish?"

"Yes." Leah said.

Then the things rose and started to swirl in the air.

The girls became excited, right before Adora began to rise into the air.

"What's going on?" Adora exclaimed, "This isn't right! Help me!"

Leah reached for her, her fingers just glancing off her shoe before Adora was fully in the air.

The voice called, "This wish also requires one other thing, the soul of the wisher's closest human being."

"No!" Leah yelled.

Then everything in the air, including Adora, vanished.

All that was left behind was her father, who fell to the ground with a thud.

"Hello?" Her father said, "Leah? Leah!"

She wanted to hug him and be thankful he was all right now, but all she could do was mourn the loss of her best friend.
