POEM STARTER
Write a poem about saying goodbye to someone who you are excited to see go.
How might you use poetic form to highlight the emotions of this usually sad scenario?
Not All Goodbyes Are Bittersweet
It has often been said since the dawn of man
That goodbyes are bittersweet
The hurt that comes from deep within
Means that your ties made you complete
But now that the moment has finally come
And you depart upon the breeze
I can’t help but feel in my heart
A certain sense of ease
I never thought that you would leave
And leave me all alone
Still now my mind it whispers to me
You’re better off on your own
For though you promised to be by my side
Through sun, through snow, through rain
You left me behind and you told me lies
Yet your words still kept me chained
False promises of love, of change
I foolishly believed
But your strangling lies, they left with you
And I can finally breath
I always feared the loneliness
That would consume me if you left
It came, then left just as you had
It followed in your steps
So here I sit, alone, unloved
But now i feel complete
I won’t believe such lies again
Not all goodbyes are bittersweet
