POEM STARTER

Gratitude

Write a poem in any style, about what you're grateful for today.

For My Grandma

Small life lessons wrapped in gentle love,

Wisdom hidden in games and notebooks.

Messages of growth given to me, before I could read,

Presented in art and kind deeds—

All handmade so I could see.

Hot cocoa and chocolates you saved for me;

I kept each wrapper,

And now I remember what it’s like to feel seen,

Even when the world feels cruel and mean.

Thank you for the tattoos you transferred

When you passed on your skin to protect me.

Though connection can be rare,

You showed me how curiosity and empathy

Lead to interests shared.

Not only memories,

But part of my existence—

My identity,

And defy of resistance.

A voice that speaks softly,

Reminding me that legacy

Lives on through the people we meet.

Thank you for teaching me

How knowledge and care can intertwine,

And create a current strong enough

To shine through the limits of time.

Now I think of you when things feel hard.

I understand the games,

The notebooks,

And the art.

When I talk to people,

I allow myself to be curious and kind—

You’ll live on forever through my mind.
