STORY STARTER

Inspired by Kail Cleo

Create a story by writing multiple diary entries from your character (or multiple characters intertwined).

Try to make each entry build from the last to add to the storyline. If you switch perspective, make it clear that it's someone else's journal.

The Diary Of -G

Summer, year 4 of King Theodore's rule,

I find it important to start writing down what I've seen. It has been a few years since the war began. They are things I find I can't talk freely about, but I can no longer keep to myself. My wife says I'm keeping a diary. It's not. I am just writing down history.

By the Creator someone has to. This place is getting stronger by the day. I think that is good. Soon we will have a strong army. No one will be able to take us down.

Until next time,

-G

Late Summer, year 4 of King Theodore's rule,

Nothing much has happened lest I'd write it down. Training new recruits and building a stronger army is all that has happened over the summer.

The troops count is well over 50,000. I think we are doing good. Many have joined us already and still more are pouring in.

My brother has joined though he is in a different unit. I have unease about him joining. He is newly wedded, I do not find it good for him to leave her alone but it seems as though this is what he wants. His wife protested some but has let him do as he wishes. I too won't deny him the honor of protecting our kingdom.

With unease I leave you,

Until next time,

-G

Fall, year 4 of King Theodore's rule,

I am back, I meant to write more earlier... nevertheless I am writing now. The war has been moving smoothly, as smoothly as a war could that is. Maybe that is why I have forgotten until now. I am stationed close to the battlefield, not quite on it, maybe a half days journey.

They have sent a new commander out here, he is quite terrifing. He looks like he'd never smiled even as a baby. His name escapes me at the moment. I've only seen him in passing.

The food today was terrible nothing new there. But our commander (not the new one) brought back wine or something similar in color from the capital. Tastes good. It really helped the morale. I think the attack tomorrow will be a success.

I've written enough for now,

Until next time,

-G

Fall, year 4 of King Theodore's rule, the next day.

I thought it well to write night as well. The attack went well, no men were lost and we've gained the upper hand on the eastern front.

My brother is now under the new commanders command. He tells me he is as harsh as he looks. Maybe I will request him to be moved to my unit.

Until next time,

-G

Early Winter, year 4 of King Theodore's rule,

The war is going smoothly we have pushed the enemy back to the dragon's pass. It is looking like we will finally win this year. But It is hard to get supplies out there with all the snow. For now we are holding out until spring.

Things are looking good for us. My brother's wife Birar has moved in with my family. I find this to be good. She will be less lonely this way.

I will send them a letter and candy today.

Until next time,

-G

Winter, year 4 of King Theodore's rule,

I worry for my brother. His letters are worry me, he is off to the very front lines of the battlefield. That commander his is under has moved up in rank faster then anyone I've seen in all my years of service. It seems suspicious if not dangerous. I digress it is probably nothing.

My brother says they are not there to fight, he assures me of this but I don't like it. There is rumors of a dragon who has awakened early. It is probably all gossip. But I still don't like it. If it is true, then the dragon's pass is the most dangerous place to be.

It does bring me some comfort knowing they have 70,000 men with them. Maybe I should stop worrying about him so much. But I can't help it. He is my younger brother I feel as though I am supposed to protect him.

My unit will join with them in the spring. I will talk face to face with him then.

Besides this there is nothing of note, there shouldn't be until spring.

Until then,

-G

Late Winter, year 4 of King Theodore's rule,

Harring sent word that my family misses me and my youngest daughter had died from flu... they wished I'd come home soon...

(Tears soaked the pages and the rest was unreadable.)

-G

(Many pages have been torn out. The paper ripped unevenly.)

Spring, year 5 of King Theodore's rule,

I'm going to kill him.

That commander doesn't deserve to live after what he has done.

I knew he wasn't to be trusted.

No one who comes to power that quickly can be trusted.

He is a traitor and should be killed.

If I don't write again, you know what has happened.

-G

Early Summer, year 5 of King Theodore's rule,

They didn't kill him.

They should have. Instead he was sent to gather troops from the wild dragon infested lands. I do not have the words... this is his execution? Just sending him to the wilderness to die? It is to honorable.

He should have been publicly executed as revenge for the families.

My wife has informed me that Briar has moved out. Back into her maiden home. We offered for her to stay but she didn't want to. I don't blame her.

The war is not looking good for us. I don't think we will survive next winter.

I don't know how much longer I will do this.

Until next time,

-G

Late Fall, year 5 of King Theodore's rule,

I didn't think I'd write in this again.

Not to be that way, but I thought I'd be dead by now. I must admit I've thought about deserting my station. More then once.

I almost did, in fact I was all packed up. But it didn't sit right with me. It felt like I was abandoning the thing my brother died for...

(There are tear stains on the paper.)

...I can't abandon this. Not yet...

Late Fall, year 5 of King Theodore's rule,

There are rumors going around again. I don't want to believe them. My wife believes them and thinks I should too. She says it is a good thing. It is hard for me to see it that way.

The news is: They say the exiled commander has returned with... I don't even want to write the absurdity. But I must for records sake.

They say he has returned with a hand full of wild men and a... blasted thing... Creator forgive me, I do not even believe what i write. They say he has a dragon with him. I know it is impossible, I don't believe it myself, a horrible and powerful beast like that cannot be tamed. It is simply impossible and honestly it feels like an insult.

Upon this word has reached me that he has been reinstated. I restrain myself from writing further lest I say something I shouldn't.

But I will leave you with this, He is a liar and a murder, I have not forgiven this man and never will. I refuse to believe this is the truth about him unless I see it with my own eyes.

For now this is all,

May we live to see another day,

-G

Spring, year 1 of King Liren Luovet's reign,

The war is over.

And I have seen the impossible.

To our kingdoms bright future,

-G
