I Wonder Why I Did That…….
“Dude stop pushing me!” Jacob yells to Tony as they’re walking through the forest, the leaves of the autumn trees crunching loud under their boots. Jacob stands in front of Tony, facing him as he walks backwards, a wide smile across his face.
“But it’s sp funny to see you stumbled. You always look so scared to.” Tony says as he returns the same smile.
“Oh shut up.” Jacob stops his movements and makes a flinching motion towards Tony as if he’ll hit him, causing Tony to stop and do the same motion back.
Both boy are smiling and having a good time, but something in Tony’s face changes instantly as he peers at something behind Jacob. Jacob notices the change in Tonys’ facial expression. The way his smile disappears, replaces with a straight line, the happiness in his eyes dimming.
He notifies Tonys’ eyes aren’t on him either and rather behind him as he focuses on something hard, making Jacob loose his smile as well.
“What?” Jacob says, breathing his words out and letting out a small laugh as his nerves spike up. He looks around trying to find what he’s looking at, but as he turns his head to look, he sees nothing. He also notices, as he looks back at Tony, he hasn’t blinked since he stopped talking. He hasn’t moved his eyes an inch past where they were and hasn’t move any part of his body whatsoever.
“Dude this isn’t funny.” Jacob says, straightening his back and standing with his hands at his side. He takes a small step towards Jacob, watching him closely as he makes no movements. Almost paralysesd. His mouth hangs open slightly, his eyes calm, not wide but not narrowed.
“Seriously, stop. This isn’t funny-“
“Shhh” Jacob shushes, his shush dragging out and elongated. Jacob hears the shush drag on, echoing and diminishing. It’s an aerie sound, one that makes it seem like their multiple people making the noise when really it’s just one. His mouth barely moves when he does so to, and for how long he holds it out, you can’t tell by looking at him that he was doing it. Almost like… he wasn’t the one doing it.
Jacob looks around quickly, this time turning his entire body in a circle and spinning as he looks around. After spinning 3 times, his breath running fast, he stops. He faces with his back turned to Tony, his heart beating right out of his chest as he looks at nothing but barren trees.
“Dude, what are you on about?” Jacob says as he turns around, only to be surprised when no one stands behind him. He gasps, opening his eyes wide as Tony is now no where to be seen.
Just as he notices the disappearance of his friend, he hears what sounds like a small ‘clink.’ Almost like something small and metal fell and landed on the ground. Fears strikes him dead and he forces his eyes to stay up, staring at the long stretches of trees in the forest.
Jacob could have sworn _that_ they didn’t go that far into the trees, last he remembered when he was looking back at Jacob he could see the road they had just come from. But now looking the same direction, the trees seem to stretch for miles, no road in sight.
Jacob gulps back his fear, taking a deep breath before turning his head down slowly to find the fallen object. The endless trees turn to ground which move downward to look at his feet, a small key sitting in the leaves right below him. From it’s placement, it looks almost as if he had dropped it out of his pocket.
Jacob squats down and lowers his hand down to the ground, grabbing the cold metal key and flipping it over in his palm. It’s a weird looking key one that looks to belong to an old house or even a old cellar. Jacob sighs, his fear slightly subsiding as he forces himself to stand up. He has to find Tony, tell him the prank is done.
When he’s standing fully, he turns around and immedialty is hit shock. Because as he turns around, the trees that were once behind him is replaced with a big log cabin, one that wasn;t behind him before. It’s almost as if someone had gently placed it on the ground behind him without him knowing.
But for some reason, despite the confusion, he isn’t scared. He feels weirdly calm. Jacob looks down at the key in his hand and then back at the cabin, before taking the 10 steps it takes to get up the stairs and to the door.
He than places the key in the hole, not so suprised when it fits and unlocked the door. After the door is open, he walks inside, noticing the air is clean and smells good. Meaning someone lives here, but who?
Without thinking, he takes a left and walks out of what looked like a living area. After leaving the living area, he leads through the kitchen and to another door, one that looks old. There’s a weird metal bar covering the door, almost like something is being locked up inside of it.
Jacob takes the key to the house and places it in the key hole of the metal bar, even more suprised when that unlocked that. He lifts the bar up and opens the door, descending down the stairs on the other side before flipping a switch on the left wall at the bottom of the stairs.
Almost immediately after the light is on, Jacob finds Tony. Tonys’ body is cut up at every joint connection a human has. He is then staples and nailed to the wall directly facing the stairs, placed in the shape of a human severed at every connecting joint.
“Oh yeah..” Jacob says calmly, his eyes on Tony. Tonys’ lifeless body is covered in blood, the wall and floor in which he’s nailed to is painted the same red. “I forgot I did that to you.” Jacob says finally, his words resonating off the walls of the small basement. “…I wonder why I did that.”
