The Dreadful Silence
Write a poem that could have this as its title or main theme.
Killing Me
There’s always that
Dreadful silence
That comes when
You say how
You truly feel for someone.
The pause…
The wait…
The anticipation…
Killing me.
What do they feel
About me?
Is it the same
As my feelings
For them?
The awkward silence…
The overbearing dread…
The painful tension…
Killing me.
They open their mouth
To speak,
My patience has
Reached its peak…
But then they
Hesitate…
And close their mouth
Once more.
Their hesitation,
It’s literally…
Killing me.
The once romantic moment
Has been drowned
In that dreadful silence,
The kind of silence that surrounds
When something dies.
I guess my heart is
Hurting,
All the waiting is…
Killing me.
Will the dreadful silence
Ever end?
My prayers are answered,
Just not in the way
I wanted…
They open their mouth
And three words,
Just three
Escape their lips
To be said to me…
“Sorry, but no…”
Then it returned,
That dreadful silence…
Painful…
Killing me.
No…
They said
No…
Brokenhearted,
I walked away,
Never going to love again,
Not again and surely not today.
Love is stupid,
So is the silence…
All of it is…
Killing me.
