The Dreadful Silence

Write a poem that could have this as its title or main theme.

Killing Me

There’s always that

Dreadful silence

That comes when

You say how

You truly feel for someone.

The pause…

The wait…

The anticipation…

_Killing me._

What do _they_ feel

About me?

Is it the same

As _my_ feelings

For them?

The awkward silence…

The overbearing dread…

The painful tension…

_Killing me_.

They open their mouth

To speak,

My patience has

Reached its peak…

But then they

Hesitate…

And close their mouth

Once more.

Their hesitation,

It’s literally…

_Killing me_.

The once romantic moment

Has been drowned

In that dreadful silence,

The kind of silence that surrounds

When something dies.

I guess my heart is

Hurting,

All the waiting is…

_Killing me_.

_Will the dreadful silence_

_Ever end?_

__

My prayers are answered,

Just not in the way

I wanted…

They open their mouth

And three words,

Just three

Escape their lips

To be said to me…

“Sorry, but no…”

Then it returned,

That dreadful silence…

Painful…

_Killing me_.

_No…_

_They said_

_No…_

__

Brokenhearted,

I walked away,

Never going to love again,

Not again and surely not today.

Love is stupid,

So is the silence…

All of it is…

_Killing me_.
