Past The Wishing Tree

The cool wind of winter made me shiver. The wind carries the leafs that comes off the dead trees of Haines, Alaska. I walk through the forest, the freezing wind blows into my face, giving me a sense of calm. Just then, a boy jumps out from behind a tree.

"BOO! Did I get ya'?" The boy asks.

The boy had warm orange tinted hair, with a pale face. His green eyes stood out in the snow. The cool air shows his breathing, it coming out like mist. I hold my chest, my breathing becoming heavy.

"Yeah, you did, and who are you?" I ask.

"Call me Ehen," he says.

"Nice to meet you Ehen, now leave me alone,"

I start walking deeper into the forest, the sound of snow crunching under my feet. I hear the sound of running behind me. Ehen suddenly runs up next to me, walking beside me, following me. I roll my eyes and I change directions, this time walking along a small path. But he still follows me, like a duckling following his mother.

"What do you want?" I ask.

"Nothing," he says.

"Then why are you following me? Just to annoy me?"

"Nope, just being here"

I roll my eyes and start walking faster, and so does he. A log comes up in our path, it covering the entire pathway. I step over it and look back to find the boy standing on top of it.

"Look at this!" he shouts as he jumps off the log on to the ground.

I roll me eyes and I keep walking down the pathway as the boy catches up with me. We come along a massive tree, it's leaves having all fallen off. We stand before it, staring at the strange marking on it.

"My mom tells me that this tree is magical. She said it grants wishes!" the boy says.

"I wish you'd leave me alone, forever," I say.

"You can't say the wish out loud! You have to say it in your head!" he tells me.

I get on my knees and closed my eyes, getting lost in my thoughts. Life had been hard since I moved to this town. I hadn't found anyone to talk to, not like anyone wanted to talk to me.

I opened my eyes and I looked over at the boy, he had already opened his eyes and was looking for me. I pushed him over, and he fell back and I laughed.

"What's your name?" he asked.

"Stacy, Stacy Morgan."
