WRITING OBSTACLE
A homograph is a word that has multiple meanings but is spelt the same way for each - e.g. a 'wave' in the sea, or to 'wave' at someone.
Choose a homograph, and write a short story or poem, in any genre, where you use your chosen word for more than one of its meanings.
The Blade
As the blade pierced through my leg, the attacker vanished into the world beyond the trees.
I watched as the blades of grass swayed back and forth, toward east and west, by the wind.
I tried lifting my pounding head to look at my injured leg. Rising my body forward made my leg sting with the slight movement my upper body caused it.
Looking at all the blood loss was too unbearable for me, for it was never my strong suit to see blood. My stomach couldn’t handle it.
I started feeling faint, but I tried to keep myself alert.
I slowly ripped a strip of cloth from the bottom of my shirt and tied it tight right above it, closer to my heart.
I tried to stand, but I only fell and caused my body more pain.
If I wanted to escape this controlled and manipulative area of this world, I have to find a way to stand and be able to walk before anyone realized that I’m missing.
I slowly crawled, being careful not to put a lot of pressure on my knee, so that the pain wouldn’t shock me and slow me down, toward the closest tree. I grabbed a low branch and slowly raised myself, only standing on my other leg.
Then I broke off a long enough branch to be able to use as a walking stick.
I took a deep breath, and went through all the reasons why I should go, and I slowly stepped through the wall and out into a new life. A better life.
