STORY STARTER
On the morning of your protagonist's wedding day, they discover something surprising about their partner.
Be creative with this discovery, and how your character handles it. What emotions do they experience, and how will you convey this to your readers?
Ruptured Tides
Those long streaks of crushed velvet -
Watch as they fold with destructive beauty
The arms of the ocean as they were,
Lift their own weight with such steed
And just as reach a mountain’s peak,
May they crumble to nothingness
and melt into the next one.
A vast blanket of ripples
That is forever torn at the seams
Ruptured in a million places,
All at once
Though quickly re-stitched
in one momentous swoop
secured in this perfect motion,
They shall all complete their duty
A cycle that never faults
Under the watchful eye of the moon
She recollects herself once more;
Selects her bricks and cement
to build a brand new wall
Watch her smooth out each crease
as she ascends to her throne
Just as a baby bird grows into her swan
Gracefully, she bends her neck
Then the underbody swiftly snaps
A volcano erupting
A landslide collapsing
A wave crashing.
In a single blink,
she is unstitched by her pounding force
And, like a flesh wound, she bleeds out
Littering the tide with thick white clusters
Pieces of her skin shattered like stain glass
Never fear
She will rise once more
Within the body of another wave
But never again in this form
She’s always changing
Coming and going
So I guess you could say,
She was one of a kind
