The Devil Never Sleeps Part 2

“I was wrong, all this time.”

It has been a few days since Deb escaped the school. Mrs Karen didn’t know what to believe when she saw fire in her eyes. Was it just her anger? Was it a devil gene? She went to see the headmaster, Mister Vickers for assistence on the matter. She couldn’t get the episode out of her mind.

Mister Vickers wasn’t necessarily as strict as Mrs Karen, he was firm but fair. He had hair as grey as a cloudy day with grass-green eyes and was always willing to help anyone; whether it’s a student or a staff member.

Good afternoon, Jean, please do sit down.” Mister Vickers said with a smile. Mrs Karen slowly sat down in the brown bucker chair where the scent of leather filled her nostrils. She told Mister Vickers about the harrowing incident with Deb and got a response that surprised her greatly.

“Jean, the thing is, Deb is not possessed or anything like that, she been through a lot; a lot more than you think.”

It was June the 10th 20001. Six year old Deb woke up looking forward to her best friend’s birthday party. Her best friend was the only person she could trust in school. Her name was Amber.

Amber had curly ginger hair with a smiles so infectious she could light up a room in a split second. She was always there for Deb when she needed help the most but at her birthday party, that all changed…

When Deb entered the sports hall where she saw an enormous bouncy castle and food buffets on every table, Amber skipped towards her with a smile and encouraged her to go on the bouncy castle with her and her other friends where Deb agreed immediately however, before she got there, Amber’s mum, Anne, walked towards her with a large grin and told her something which made her happier.

“Are you Amber’s friend? You’re such a diamond! She’s been eagerly waiting for you to come!” Deb’s never been told she was needed before. She hss always felt like she’s ‘second best’ in her family. It was like Amber’s family was the only family Deb had. After Deb quickly hugged Amber’s mum, her and Amber ran over to the bouncy castle and started to play until something terrible happened…

Suddenly, The head teacher at their primary school, Mister Graham, marched into the birthday party and the leughter stopped instantly. Mister Graham had night-black hair and had a criminal record for violence and Murder. He stood scowling at the guests; particularly Amber, and made a threat no one wanted to hear:

“Amber! You failed the test and you think you’re worthy enough to have a party? You’re dead!” Mister Graham boomed as he took out a machete. The room was filled with screams of terrified children and Mister Graham marched over towards Amber and stabbed her in the head which killed her but Deb had other plans.

Deb quickly ran out of Mister Graham’s sight, took the knife which was supposed to be used for cutting the cake and threw it at Mister Graham, hitting him in the back, killing him. Deb then sprinted to Amber where she was lying in a pool of blood, completely lifeless which made Deb burst into tears. This made Deb develop a hatred for teachers shouting.

After Mister Vickers finished the story, A tear started to roll down Mrs Karen’s cheek and recalled the day Deb shouted at her for yelling at her friend Rhonda and escaped. She asked Mister Vickers for Deb’s home address and got in her car and drove there.

When she reached Deb’s house, she knocked on the door where her mum opened the door with a neutral expression.

“May I speak with Deb? I need to apologise.” Mrs Karen said softly, Deb’s mum let her in with a small smile and Mrs Karen saw Deb sitting in the living room watching TV. Mrs Karen stood in front of her with Deb scowling at her however, that scowling ended when Mrs Karen said what she had to say.

“Deb, I know you hate me right now but I want to apologise for berating your friend, I know you’ve been through hell I want to change.” Mrs Karen said softly. Deb stood up and hugged Mrs Karen tightly for what felt like forever.

It just goes to show diamonds are beautiful, but they’re also strong too.
