Our neighbour Mrs. Jonesy is always wearing a red scarflette around her wrist and I’ve always wanted to know why. We’ve had lots of speculation, but I decided the best way to find out was to just ask her. So I did.

“Oh, this? I use it to hide my scar.”

A scar? I asked what the scar was for and she told me something so cool.

“When I was younger I got into an accident and ended up losing my hand, the Doctors were amazing and were able to reattach it, but it left a nasty scar, I tried bracelets and everything to cover it, but they just irritated it, so I opted for the scarflette instead.”

I asked why she prefers to hide it and she told me it wasn’t the case she wanted to hide it, but “my scar gets very itchy, so I wear it to protect it from the elements, I’m very proud of my scar.” And I think that’s so cool and now I know.
