Healing Magic

“I though magic was supposed to make healthcare easier!” The boy whined. He was home sick, and a visit to the doctor hadn’t offered any magical remedies, just orders to rest and stay hydrated.

His grandmother, who was watching him for his parents, rolled her eyes. “You’ve been watching too many action movies.”

“How so? I heard medical officers in the military can do this kind of stuff in a quarter of the time!”

“By cutting corners. Same with ER staff. They can keep you stable, but depending on what’s wrong with you, others still have to come in to finish the job. Flesh wounds are easy enough, I’m sure you were taught that much first aid in school.”

“Yeah, accelerating the body’s natural healing process.”

“Uh huh. But there’s a lot more to it than that. Anyone can heal a broken bone, but if you don’t snap it back in place, it won’t heal in the right shape. Healing magic won’t necessarily negate the need for surgery if it’s not a simple matter of healing. That requires a lot more skill and training.”
