WRITING OBSTACLE

Describe the specific atmosphere inside a very small space, like the inside of a tent, a closet, or under a blanket.

Jacket

A jacket is so simple

A silly thing really

To keep you warm in the cold

I have plenty of my own

And dont need another

But when i see them have them

I want one even more

I will fake the cold

And shiver like a champ

Just to get a jacket

Oh why cant i get a jacket

So simple

A silly thing really

A jacket....

Under The Blanket

It’s hot. Your inhale steals the fresh air and your exhale gives back only warmth. The reused air is stale, overwhelmingly not enough. Every part of you is warmed, but beginning to panic. There isn’t enough air. The soft folds of your blanket are collapsing around you, squeezing you in. You wonder if this is what it is like to suffocate, to breathe death....

The Winters Night

It was a cold exhausting winter night. When I looked out of my tent, all I could see was the cold snow blazing by. So I stayed in my tent, tucked away in the corner, with a thick blanket to keep me warm, and a soft, pink pillow to sleep on. My tent is small, but good enough. I run my fingers over the wall, I don’t specifically like the texture, it makes me think more of the cold outside I wish wou...

Run.

I look over to Cedric as I hear the bricks rapidly click under their feet. They were coming, and we had to find somewhere to hide, fast. Around the corner, through the crowd I spot the Maritime conservatory. I look back to tell Cedric to follow me, but he was no where to be seen. I didn’t have time. Not even to think. But I knew that mama and baba had once said that it was open for cleanings on Th...

Here I Come

My heart pounds in my chest as I shut the door behind me making sure to make as little sound as possible. Swiftly, my feet find their way down the stairs hoping that I don’t trip over some item that was placed on them. I get down the first flight and turn to go down the second one that I know is there. My ears turn toward a creaking from behind the door and I move faster away from it.

As I find ...

Sanctuary

Suki’s fort was complete: the borrowed white Jersey cotton sheets hung from a pair of ceiling hooks- of unknown origin or use- and enveloped the majority of her twin bed and a small area on the now pillow covered floor; the cocoon of her masterpiece. Checking again that her bedroom door was closed and turning off the light, Suki crawled inside through the slit where the pair of sheets met and clos...

Walk Into

- What's goin' on, girl?!

- Come on, faster! Hide before they'll see you in there!

So he jumped into the closet, it wasn't a big one and surely had not so much space, it was full of clothes. They all smellt like her. It was just like he was an intruder here. Interrupting this holy peace and trandescency remaining between skirts, coats, shirts, shoes and all the jewelry. But what a feeling it was, ...

More Than Just A Closet

The darkness of the closet enveloped you once you eased the door closed. It comforts where light might critic, allowing everything but nothing at the same time. The space allows you to reach to either wall but opens your imagination to what could be. Leaving the body inside the embrace of the tight space while the mind wanders....

The Belly Of The Beast

I lift my drink from the table tugging against the sticky dried alcohol clinging to my glass. The flames of this evening’s fire dance across the walls with the shadows of the merry patrons.

So young they all are to not yet know the toils of the world. Here in this place the winter night seems not so dark.

The strings twang and drum beats bounce between stone walls around me accompanied by rhyth...

In Somebody’s Arms

(*Cries in touch starved.* Hope you have a great day y’all!)

In a somebody’s arms

I lay.

“I love you,”

They say.

I smile as we cuddle

And sway.

A kiss is planted on my neck as they fluster me

With wordplay.

I feel safe and (shockingly) I trust they won’t

Run away.

They don’t even care about my scars or how I write my feelings down

In essays.

…

I close my eyes and

I dream of a day

Where t...
