Sitting there, staring a the screen

Wonder if people can read mind and hear my screams

All because to no avail

No one considered this could have been an email...

There is a quiet room within me

Where all the lights have died,

Silent tears that no one hears,

Silent screams of broken dreams.

No one sees, or hears the cries

Of sadness in disguise

Even when the smiles are real

There’s still darkness everyone feels

We all lie one way or another.

Weather it be about about, mothers or brothers or lovers.

We all work to make a life. Lives that are all built off of lies....

the words she speaks are quiet

because to be loud is to be brash

but to be hushed is to be afraid

she has never thought herself weak

yet now she lives in fear

the pain she carries is meaningless

because to be hurt is to be weak

but to act strong is to seem privileged

she has never felt all that lucky

yet now she is seen as a fraud

the beauty she has is not acknowledged

because to feel pretty...

She smiles in public, laughs at all the right times. But I see her face afterwards. She’s asking herself a question: Did I hit all my marks?

She dances at parties, sings karaoke too, but I see her eyes afterwards, and they ask, Do I want to be saved from me or from you?

She’s always at the center of conversation, where her act is the greatest, but I see her hands shake as she holds the glass...

Silent Screams

In the hush between midnight and dawn,

I carry echoes no one hears-

A lullaby broken, a cradle gone,

Dreams drowned in a river of tears.

Walls remember fists like thunder,

Shadows whisper secrets I never told.

My voice was a fragile splinter under

The weight of hands that turned me cold.

Silent screams stitched into my skin,

My worth is weighed in trophies

Not silver, bronze, just gold

My family says they’re all so pleased

At least, that’s what I’m told.

Losing isn’t an option, at least in my case

If I do, there’ll be the stares laced with pity

I’ll have to endure with a straight face.

Instead of praise, they’ll tell me I’m pretty

Which doesn’t matter to me.

God, I just want to yell, shout, screech-

Out of bed before dawn

Rush around

Pack the day’s necessities

Get in the fuel burner

Get onto the asphalt

Sit still surrounded by more fuel burners

Two and a half hours in the fumes

Bladder bursting, head aching

Move a few feet every ten minutes

It’s still your fault you’re late

Not the careless driver who overturned a tractor trailer

Sit at your beige desk in your beige cubicle

Feet on the beige ...

Cracks hidden in my smile

Eyes concealing tattered pieces

Mocking sunrises

Seasons spinning

People moving like nothing changes

Blood raging under my skin

Airflow ceasing, throat restricting

While images of destruction

Knife wounds

Walls littered with holes

And screams echoing

Down imagined hallways

Fill my mind

Knowing the safest of places
